Sunt câteva luni deja, de când somnul mi-e întrerupt, aproape în fiecare noapte, de un nou coșmar. Adorm, și imediat aud voci, un întreg cor parcă, 78 de glasuri intonând fără voia lor un opus funerar dirijat în mai multe registre deodată de către un monstru. Este un fel de caracatiță gigantică, un octopod, un mutant genetic, probabil, pentru că are mai mult de opt brațe: tentaculele sale au rezultat prin înmulțirea cu media mea anuală de 8,5. Și-n jurul meu, văd numai fețe zâmbitoare: turiști, cu sutele, pozând visători în fața autocarelor lor gata de plecare. Simt atunci că-n mijlocul lor se ascunde nevăzut un alt monstru, unul foarte asemănător mie, greu de detectat, și totuși un catalizator al morții la fel de eficient.
