POOLOURI
adică
Paranoia Schwartz

– a podoabei capilare.

POOLOs
namely
Schwartz Paranoia

or

the most important parables of the life full of learning and boldness of the pre-eminent and pre-enlightened Gough, as well as of his no less brilliant contemporary Finch, with details on how the sages of yesterday, of the other day and always knew how to reflect these events in their maxims and thoughts. And that’s not all yet…

The Wavy Matches

„He clasped his hands in his hair and began to shoot, and then a terrible, incomprehensible rage seized Joel.” – Truman Capote, Other Voices, Other Rooms, II, 7.)

Gough was born with a strange defect, so commented on by everyone around him: he was a completely normal child, but his parents were amazed to find that the hairs growing on his head were much thicker than those ordinary and ended in a red litter, so that they looked perfectly like wavy matches. And not only were they similar, they were really matches.
At first, the parents consoled themselves, saying that the main thing is for their offspring to be healthy and intelligent: after all, how many people do not have red hair? And, in their love for the boy, they suggested to themselves that their son did not have matches on his head, but only an unusual color – really chic! – of the hair ornament. But… But others didn’t see it that way, others pointed out the evidence: Gough was growing matches on his head!
„There’s no shame in that,” someone told Gough, worried he wouldn’t make all sorts of complexes. Who knows?! Maybe your „hair” is proof of progress. Maybe in a while all humans, the whole species, will have matches instead of hair.

  • Yes, but until then…
  • Until then, the best thing would be to draw the necessary conclusions and try to get as many benefits as possible from this situation.
Gough thought for a long time, but what good could it do you to get rid of thousands of matchsticks? Especially since they weren’t even of the highest quality, some of the phosphorus needed by the brain was probably discreetly squandered to ensure Gough’s remarkable intelligence. By „trimming” every two months, it could have secured the contents of 850 – 1,375 boxes of matches. Which would be the equivalent of a ridiculous amount. The business was almost unprofitable and required significant investments: careful care of the „hair”, trimming it so that all the „sticks” were equal in length, cleaning their dandruff, getting or making longer boxes – because it was the only advantage of Gough’s merchandise, his matches was much, much longer than usual – the making of attractive labels on boxes, the opening and sale of the whole stock, all required a whole team of intermediaries and, ultimately, all the work, Poolo calculated that he would gain nothing.
And what else can you do with so many matches, even if they are wavy, than sell them? What other advantages could you derive from such a peculiarity that Gough’s head had?
From his savings, Gough funded a survey: „What would you do if you had 750 boxes of matches a month?”
The answers can be grouped into the following sections:
  1. I would look for solutions to market them. (42% of opinions)
  2. I would look for new scientific solutions for the superior use of matches. (16%)
  3. I would become a vegetarian (?!). (3%)
  4. I would use them for rite purposes, setting up pyroteology. (1.03%)
  5. I would use them for charitable purposes. (0.64%)
  6. Miscellaneous. (0.007%)
  7. I would make them chitonxychloraminofibrolethoxide *. (37,302%)
  8. I don’t know. (0.004%)

So Gough used them for chitonxychloroaminofibroletoxides. These, however, came out too fragile and broke at the first touch.
But life solves them all. In time, Gough grew old and began to bald. Gradually, he no longer had matches for his current needs. So he had to start buying them too. And he was told that they were very expensive. And poor quality. Not like in his day. And not even those long, wavy matches are on the market today.

  • The author of the survey has given assurances that he will not divulge the secrets of those who will be kind enough to answer the question. So we have to keep discretion with regard to chitonxychloroaminofibroletoxuria, which, in fact, remains a personal matter for every citizen. Unfortunately, due to the poor quality of contemporary matches, chito… is on the verge of extinction.
